There is now also a Go Construct STEM Ambassador programme specifically targeted at careers within construction. CICES is working with CITB, who run this programme, to encourage its members to get involved and to sign up as a Go Construct STEM Ambassador.
CICES is listed as an organisation within the scheme, so it will be able to see how many of its members are involved. If you are already a STEM ambassador, you can get your profile linked to CICES via the scheme and it would be great if more members were able to sign up and get involved.
Ambassadors often provide the first introduction to the construction industry for young people. They talk about what they do and how they got where they are – sometimes delivering a life-changing impact on a young person’s future career decisions.
With a skills shortage that is sure to affect many construction businesses in the future, the scheme is there to encourage young people to consider the wide and diverse range of careers offered in construction and protect industry recruitment for the future.
It’s a great way of using volunteer days, if your organisation has them, and it’s a demonstration of corporate social responsibility, that many companies pledge to work towards – operating in ways that enhance society and the environment instead of contributing negatively to them.
CICES has arranged an introductory webinar, specifically for members, to give more information on what it involves and how to go about signing up.
It has resources that can be used for activities, and if anybody has other activities and resources it would be great if you could share them with CICES, so they can be made available to other members – just get in contact with Katie Holt via kholt@cices.org to share your activities.
The webinar will be on Thursday 23 February 12-1.30pm. You can sign up via the events page on the CICES website.
