As I write this at the start of 2023 I’m reminded of ‘new start, new you’ and a ‘change is as good as a rest’.
I think to the throwaway statement: “Applicants should have a can-do attitude”.
What does that actually mean?
From the lens of the civil engineering surveyor (CES), I believe the understanding of that requirement is the embodiment of what it is to be a CES (if you’re not sure you agree, take a look at the royal charter and the competencies, you’ll find them on the shiny new website!)
The can-do attitude often sees surveyors either in the midst of ensuring something is done right, influencing decisions early that are project critical, or rather distressingly, called in last minute, to explain why the coordinates for the design aren’t matching those on the ground.
As 2023 breaks, think about what you’re going to do to make an impact and raise the profile of what YOU bring to the project. Get stuff done!
