The institution has announced the launch of two new awards dedicated to equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). The ‘EDI Trailblazer’ and ‘Voice in EDI’ awards will celebrate the individuals actively transforming the civil engineering surveying sector. As one of CICES’ three golden threads, alongside digitalisation and sustainability, EDI is central to the institution’s mission.
The awards have been introduced to continue showcasing best practice across the industry and recognise those making both immediate impact and long-term contributions to EDI. The introduction of these EDI awards enhances and complements the current CICES awards, ensuring that EDI efforts are seen as an essential component of professional development.
Nicola Clancy, CICES EDI Council chair, said: ‘I am so proud to see the launch of the CICES EDI awards, this is not only an amazing way to celebrate the great work our colleagues do to make our amazing industry a better place to work but also encourages our peers to engage and implement further behaviour changes.
The awards provide a platform to recognise and share good practice, to inspire others and to generate knowledge, which has the potential to influence change across industry.’
Simon Hamlyn, CICES CEO, commented: ‘Equity, diversity and inclusion are not optional in our jobs; they are our job. We are all very different and let’s be honest, life without diversity would be very boring.’ The nomination process is open now, and allows for both peer submissions and self-nominations. All entries will be reviewed by CICES’ EDI Council.

Nominations are now open for corporate members (MCInstCES and FCInstCES) to join the institution’s Council of Management. This is the most senior of the institution Committees with its structure and appointment processes set out in our royal charter and bylaws. The Council of Management oversees the delivery of the institution’s strategic plan as well as providing leadership, oversight and direction for this and future generations of civil engineering surveyors. If you genuinely have the time and wish to make a significant contribution to the work and effectiveness of the institution, please consider putting yourself forward for election.
