A dynamic celebration

The annual dinner makes a welcome return

THE institution’s annual dinner made a welcome return on 10 September at Edinburgh’s Dynamic Earth. Following its postponement last year due to the pandemic, the early autumn sunshine meant that guests made the most of the venue’s dramatic veranda, with the Holyrood Scottish Parliament on one side, and Arthur’s Seat on the other.

Over 170 guests attended the dinner, hosted by president Stephen Slessor and his wife, Kimberley. Alongside the celebrations of Mr Slessor’s presidency, institution awards were made to former CEO Bill Pryke and CICES UAE chair Dhammika Gammage.

A charity draw was held with prizes kindly donated by KOREC, Leica Geosystems, SCCS, Topcon, Trimble and TwoPlusTwo raising £1,655 for SANDS, the Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society – a cause personally chosen by the president.

CICES thanks sponsors SCCS, Morrison Construction, Hexagon and Leica Geosystems for their support. Special thanks also to SCCS for providing facemasks for all guests to wear when not dining indoors – a unique dinner gift to mark a unique time for the institution.
