Honorary presidents fellowship to be awarded to retired past presidents

CICES President, Batsetswe Motsumi, supported by all members of Council of Management has agreed that honorary fellowship will to be awarded to all past presidents – who have retired from fulltime work – in recognition of their service and commitment to the institution. Any past president who would like to take up this offer should contact CICES CEO, Simon Hamlyn to discuss if they meet the criteria at simon.hamlyn@cices.org or 07927 132964. 

Tomorrow Leaders Committee: A slice of sustainability event

The institution’s TLC is hosting a free networking event on Thursday 30 November in central London (6pm-8 pm). This event welcomes all early career members and prospective members, including students, graduates, apprentices and trainees. Heavy And Civil Engineering Construction Global Market Report 2023

The global heavy and civil engineering construction market grew from $1840.28bn in 2022 to $1936.17bn in 2023 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.2%. The heavy and civil engineering construction market is expected to grow to $2305.56bn in 2027 at a CAGR of 4.5%. While the Civil engineering market size, share and trends analysis report 2023-2030 cites the global civil engineering market size to reach $13,700.9bn by 2030 and expand at 5.9% CAGR from 2023 to 2030. An increase in the number of infrastructure and capital projects is projected to boost the growth of construction segment, which, in turn, is expected to drive civil engineering industry over the forecast period. 

 Apprenticeship expands to address skills gaps across the globe

A North East of England apprenticeship scheme, PlanBEE, which aims to give young people a foundation for a career in built environment has expanded nationally and internationally into Vancouver, Canada and London. The industry-driven PlanBEE programme developed by Ryder and Gateshead College provides academic study, alongside apprenticeship employment to learn on the job and rotate across employers, including Bowmer + Kirkland, Sir Robert McAlpine, Cundall, Mott MacDonald and Ryder. 

 Infrastructure projects in Europe, Middle East, and Africa named as finalists in Bentley Systems’ 2023 Going Digital Awards

Bentley Systems, the infrastructure engineering software company, has announced the finalists in Bentley’s 2023 Going Digital Awards. The annual awards honours the work of Bentley software users advancing infrastructure design, construction, and operations throughout the world. Twelve independent jury panels, representing 12 award categories, such as bridges and tunnels, enterprise engineering, and rail and transit, made up of three individual jurors each, including our institution’s deputy editor, Danielle Kenneally, selected the 36 finalists from over 300 nominations submitted by 235 organisations from 51 countries.

Representatives from the finalists’ organisations will present their projects to each panel of independent judges to determine the winners at the event, which will be held at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore between 11-12 October.
