CICES annual dinner – a celebration of everything civil engineering surveying
HOSTED by president Alison Watson MBE and outgoing president Batsetswe Motsumi the institution’s annual dinner took place on 20 September in the Great Hall King’s College, Cambridge University. A special welcome was reserved for guests CK Lau and Francis Lam from the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors along with Cordia Yu and Ginny Chau from the institution’s Hong Kong regional committee who had flown in especially. A spotlight of the dinner was the launch of the institution’s new sustainability white paper by Dr Michele Victoria from Robert Gordon University.
On the night, the Institution Medal was presented to BK SURCO’s John Battersby, while Peter Hallsworth, chair CICES Education, Professional Development and Membership committee was the recipient of the President’s Medal. Other awards included the Robin Jones Award which went to winners, Campbell Davidson for innovation and sustainability; Malintha Fernando for equity, diversity and inclusion and Tammy Nolan for overcoming challenges and breaking boundaries through education, training and development. The commercial manager award was presented to Mark Phillips and two inaugural outstanding collaborations awards – in conjunction with the Chartered Surveyors Training Trust – were awarded to Mark Wheeler, Diales and Shy Jackson, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner.
A charity draw was held with prizes kindly donated by Applications in CADD, Buxton Press, G2 Surveys, Simon Hamlyn, KOREC Group, Paul MacArthur and Wisen raising £1,720 for the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity.
