Anglia & Central

Following the AGM, Tim Over has taken over as chair from Dr Francine Baker who has stepped. The region would like to thank Dr Baker for her time as chair and commitment to the region over the years.

Eastern & Midlands

Following the AGM, Anthony Mercure has taken on the role as new deputy chair replacing the previous role of secretary. The region would like to thank David Strange-Walker for his time as secretary and to Stuart Andrew who has stepped down as treasurer after a commendable 20 years in the role.

Northern Counties

17 MAY 23: The Northumberland Line – site visit and presentation

Arden House, South Newsham Road, Northumberland, 8am arrival time

A site visit to Newsham Station and presentation of the Northumberland Line project which is re-introducing direct passenger trains between south-east Northumberland and Newcastle. Programme delivery director Neil Blagburn will present on the project and its progress, aspects of client care and framework behaviours such as the ‘Collaboration Charter’. Breakfast sandwiches will be provided. Please bring safety boots and orange high-vis if available.

North West & North Wales

26 APR 23: Financial and tax planning presentation and clay pigeon shooting

Venue TBC, Congleton, Cheshire, 8am-1.30pm

Presentation on financial and tax planning, especially helpful to those who run their own business who feel unsure about what options are available. The day will include looking at practical examples of maximising profit extraction, while also creating a long-term asset that will be of benefit in the future.

This is a free CICES event hosted by HWL Wealth Management and DH Business Support, with breakfast refreshments provided on arrival. To reserve a place, email kevin.mccarten@sjpp.co.uk.

28 APR 23: Applications in CADD

CICES HQ, Sale, Manchester, 10am-12pm

Speaker, Phil Langrishe, managing director at Applications in CADD (AiC Limited) will discuss the business, where it came from and where it is now. He will also demonstrate its n4ce survey mapping and modelling software, as well as cover topics, such as AI-based classification of point cloud data. All are welcome at this free event, with breakfast refreshments provided on arrival.

South East

Following the AGM, Lauren Holland has taken over as secretary for the region replacing Peter Paskell who has stepped. The region would like to thank Peter for his time as secretary and commitment to the region over the years.

08 JUN 23: Commercial Management Conference 2023: Addressing climate change in civil engineering

Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Governors House, London, 1-6.15pm

A half-day commercial management conference covering digital transformation. Chaired by Mark Wheeler, CEO of Driver Trett, the keynote will come from Mark Farmer, Cast Consultancy CEO and government-appointed champion for modern methods of construction (MMC). CICES president, Andy Evans will also discuss the CICES sustainability strategy and there will be a presentation on the NEC option covering climate change targets by Ian Heaphy, who is on the NEC4 contract board, IN Construction Consulting. Refreshments are provided.
