SIX months have flown by since accepting the honour to lead our beloved institution. In that time, the institution and I have worked to explain AVTC and develop the deliverables for the year.
This year’s presidential theme is derived from our ideals as the institution that we are at the service to our members, the communities we serve and the profession that we represent. In doing so I believe that the image, relevance and standing of CICES must be enhanced.
I have therefore identified three key pillars, described here, to demonstrate value to our members and the profession during and beyond my presidency along with an action plan for each.
Digital transformation
We are carrying out a digital transformation of the services that we provide to our members across all our platforms. For our current members and those wishing to join us we are making the membership experience seamless and digitally intuitive. This is irrespective of the device on which is being used and whether it’s to engage with CICES as a membership institution or whether it is to consume the publications with which CICES produces on a regular basis.

We are being more deliberate and focused in carrying out our mandate as an educational charity focused on promoting the art and science of civil engineering surveying. We are working on specific measures to improve the civil engineering surveying skills within and alongside educational institutions. We are also creating targeted collaborative arrangements with other like-minded institutions to address big challenges affecting our members and the communities we serve such as our environmental, social and governance (ESG) offering.
Supporting our ADS and partner organisations
We are already carrying out a root and branch review of our approved development schemes (ADS) which remains a pivotal mechanism for supporting the training and development of civil engineering surveyors within their employment. We will be developing and articulating the value proposition for CICES ADS and facilitate learning and connections between our ADS community.
Want to get involved or find out more?
We are, in addition, looking for our members to bring their specialist knowledge and passion to the fore by offering their time and expertise to contribute towards the implementation of themes that interest them. If this is the case and you wish to shape the future of your institution, we would love to hear from you. To get involved, please email me directly at president@cices.org.
