I WAS reminded by fellow and chartered engineer, Daniel Sum, from the Hong Kong region, of the value of the exercise of applying for CEng status via the Engineering Council-approved route through the CICES. I don’t think I’m wrong about suggesting that the majority of our membership are skilled experts in their various fields just getting the job done.
We don’t naturally promote ourselves, and I think that means that we don’t shout enough about what we do.
The cogs in the machine that we are, make construction work quietly.
On undertaking the CEng it’s clear that the self-assessment required to achieve it is a really brilliant exercise that highlights what you have done during your career, what is special, and why we are valuable members of society.
Don’t believe that?
Thinking ‘that’s not me!?
Contact CICES HQ and ask for help in finding a mentor. All of our institution’s fellows, members and CEng applicants can help you to identify the excellence in you.
We are, after all, the ‘friendly institution’.
Just ask, there’s no such thing as a bad question.
